Duke Basketball has dominated the college basketball landscape with players that dominate on offense and defense helping players get ready to play professional basketball. What’s always unique about each Duke team is the ability to work together under coach Mike Krzyzewski, who is known as one of the greatest college basketball coaches. Last season, Duke was not their best with a record of 13 wins and 11 losses missing the NCAA tournamnet for the first time due to a psoitve COVID-19 test on the team. This year, Duke is on a special mission to not only win a national championship for the school, but to make this the most memorable season for coach Krzyzewski as this will be his last season coaching the Blue Devils. It’s up to the underclassmen and upperclassmen to lead Duke back on top once more. Duke Basketball’s 2021-2022 season

A Young Talented Underclass

The freshamn and sophmore players on this team will have a tremendous impact for Duke as there are nine out of a roster of 14 players. Most noted of these players are the freshamn players’: Paolo Banchero, Trevor Keels, and Jaylen Blakes, and AJ Griffin. This was a recuiting class that averaged close to and above 20 points per game in high school and is expected to make an impact. The sophmore players’ Mark Williams and Jeremy Roach are expected to continue a strong second-year campaign showcasing to the country that even though they’re young, they can deliver a one-two punch. Williams averaged 15.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks last season while Roach averaged 8.7 points and 2.8 assists.

The Veteran Upperclass Duke Basketball

The upperclassmen this year is a unique one with adding two graduate transfers Theo John from Marquette University and Bates Jones from Davidson College. Learning to what it’s like to wear the Duke blue while getting acclimated to campus life is an easy transition, but that doesn’t phase these transfers as teh real challenge is whether or not they can contribute to bringing a national championship to the school. John averaged eight points and five rebounds at Marquette while Jones averaged 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds. Captains’ Junior Wendell Moore and Senior Joey Baker are expected to lead this team through the trials and tribulations of tough opponenets such as, UNC, NC State, and Virginia. Moore started as a freshman and was guided by Tre Jones on how to be a leader on the court while Baker saw some playing time as freshamn due to Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish leading the charge. Both lave learned what it takes to lead this team realizing that the key to success is working together.
