The Men’s and Women’s Wimbledon draws have been released and it is officially time to examine the field.

Who is best set up on the men’s side to challenge Novak Djokovic and keep him from that record-tying 20th major? On the women’s side, is Serena Williams in a position to break out of her slump and tie Margaret Court for the record with her 24th major title or will somebody else be able to step up and deny her once more?

Let’s take a look at the field.

Men’s Draw

To the surprise of nobody, Djokovic enters Wimbledon as the No.1 seed while World No.2 Daniil Medvedev will join him as top two seed.

After originally being slotted in as the No. 7 seed, Roger Federer will now be seeded sixth due to the withdrawal of World No. 5 Dominic Thiem. Federer is seeded sixth despite being No. 8 in the FedEx ATP Rankings due to the absences of Rafael Nadal and Theim.

When the draw occurred, there was a chance that Federer and Djokovic could meet as early as the quarterfinals, but much to the delight of tennis fans, they found themselves on opposite sides of the bracket. This creates the possibility of a highly anticipated rematch of the historic 2019 Wimbledon final the two played the last time Wimbledon was played.

In the longest final in Wimbledon singles finals history, Djokovic finally dispatched Federer in 4 hours and 57 minutes in five sets to give him the title.

In first round matches of interest, Andy Murray makes his return to the All England Club for the first time since 2017. He will take on No. 24 seeded Nikoloz Basilashvili. Then, on day two, Federer opens against Adrian Mannarino in a tough opening round test.

Looking down the road, Djokovic could be on a potential collision course with No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitipas in the semifinals, setting up a rematch of the 2021 French Open Final.

Main draw play will begin on Monday, June 28 with the final set to take place on Sunday, July 11.

Women’s Draw

For the women, 2019 French Open Champion Ashleigh Barty is the top-ranked seed in the field this year, while Aryna Sabalenka is the No. 2 seed.

Serena Williams, meanwhile, is the No. 6 seed on the women’s side and is in the same half of the draw as Barty, setting the two up for a potential semifinal clash. That will be easier said than done though, as Barty has never gotten past the fourth round at Wimbledon.

However, there is plenty of opportunity out there. This is because two of the best women in tennis will not be playing in this tournament. Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep both are out after Halep withdrew with a calf injury.

Back in 2019 when Wimbledon was last played, it was Halep taking the title. She defeated Williams in straight sets in just 56 minutes.

Looking ahead to the first round of action, there are a couple of intriguing matchups. On day one, 2017 U.S. Open Champion Sloane Stephens will take on No. 10 seed Petra Kvitová. Highlighting day two is a showdown between Barty and Carla Suárez Navarro.

Down the road, there are a few potential intriguing matchups outside of the potential Barty-Williams clash. The most notable of which would be a showdown featuring Barty even before the potential match with Williams. That would be a potential fourth round matchup between Barty and the winner of the last major, 2021 French Open Champion, Barbora Krejčíková, who is seeded 14th

Main draw play will begin on Monday, June 28 with the final set to take place on Saturday, July 10.

My Predictions

This is set to be an extremely competitive and very historic tournament for both the men and the women.

With potential for both Djokovic and Williams to tie the major title records with a victory, there will be a lot of pressure on them to get the job done. The same goes for Federer, who would reclaim the men’s major title record all for himself if he were able to win No. 21 here at Wimbledon.

Ultimately, I do believe there will be history made. Djokovic is playing at the top of his game, and I believe he will win his 20th career major title. He will defeat Federer in the final.

On the women’s side, I believe Williams will take care of business there as well. She will defeat No. 11 Garbiñe Muguruza in the final.

However, history will be made in this tournament no matter who the winners are. The winners of the biggest tournament in tennis will go down in glory forever no matter their name.

What is known is that this tournament will be a wild ride with lots of stellar matches. So, take a seat, make sure to set those alarms, grab some coffee, and tune in to what is sure to be a fantastic tournament.
