The NBA crowned their top 75 players of all time and as with any lists, there are some snubs. Given all of the great players over the years, 75 is a very small number in comparison to how many of the greats we’ve seen over the years. Names like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Kareem, LeBron, Magic, Bird, and Allen Iverson will get no argument from anyone.

While others like Vince Carter, Dwight Howard, and Tony Parker not making it in will get plenty of arguments.

Reggie Miller Time

Reggie Miller is one name that was heralded as one of the top 75 of all time. He was once considered the greatest shooter we’ve ever seen. Over the course of his career, Miller would rack up an astounding 2, 560 three pointers. Although he no longer holds that record, it was and still is impressive. Reggie Miller was a Godsend to the Indiana Pacers and was clearly their best player. Seeing the way he used the three ball in game was a sight to behold. But was he anything other than just a great shooter? Let’s look at it. As a scorer, Reggie averaged 18.2 points a game for his career. He never got to that elite scoring tier at even 25 PPG in a single season. He was only ever a top 10 scorer in one season when he finished 8th. That’s pretty good, still. He has had one finals appearance that came late in his career at the age of 35. He has never once made an All-NBA 1st or even 2nd team, only 3rd.

Miller has never been league MVP and over the course of his 18-year career, he was only selected to five all-star teams. On top of all of this, he has no championships

Respect Gets You Places Numbers Can’t

If you’re a person hearing his peers talk about how great Reggie Miller was, you’d be surprised that his accomplishments aren’t filled to the brim like many others.

When you compare Reggie Miller’s stats to someone like Dwight Howard who did not make it in, it makes you question some things. Yes, they are totally different players that play different positions. The thing is Dwight Howard was the only player to ever win 3 consecutive Defensive Player of the Year awards. He has 8 All-star appearances, eight-time All-NBA Team honoree, five-time All-Defensive Team member, and he can add NBA champion to that impressive list.

We all love Reggie Miller for the great moments he’s provided us. He was an absolute dog on the court, and he was afraid of no one. Miller was one of the best shooters we’ve ever seen. Is he deserving of being named top 75? That depends on who you ask. I’d say top 100. He has earned so much respect over the course of the years that it’s impossible to forget about him when talking about the greats. Ray Allen breaking his impressive three-point record boosted his star up even more because it had seemed impossible for so long. You can’t ignore how good he was but there is a bit of an argument for his place amongst the top 75 players of all time.
