Just three years ago, AEW was formed in order to give both fans and wrestlers an alternative to the giant that is WWE. This revolution was spear-headed by former WWE superstar, Cody Rhodes. Cody is the son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes. Being a pretty good wrestler, Cody wanted more than what WWE was willing to give. After months of clashing with creative and having his ideas shot down, he decided to leave the promotion.

The Alternative

After Cody left, he would make a bunch of noise on the internet after a new wrestling promotion. Many fans thought it was only bluffs. Turns out, it was all real. On January 1, 2019, All Elite Wrestling was formed. Cody had managed to amass some of the biggest names in wrestling such as the #1 wrestler in the entire world, Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and even one of the greatest of all time, Chris Jericho. Cody would take on an on-screen role as wrestler but also had a high-ranking position backstage as an executive. With Tony Khan’s backing and funding, AEW continued to make noise, making WWE sweat in the process. But of course, good things are never without their bad.

Heading Back Home?

It has been reported that Tony Khan and Cody Rhodes have had issues as of late. It is to be assumed that Cody has lost some of the executive power that Cody once had. Why? Well, maybe Tony Khan felt that he Cody to focus on wrestling. Maybe he just thought there were too many hands in the creative process and wanted less clutter. Tony Khan has surrounded himself with staff that can help him with backstage things such as creative and other decisions. Cody Rhodes, since leaving WWE, has become quite the star. He is much bigger than he once was. Therefore, his value is at an all-time high. He was essentially the John Cena of AEW. He was the face. He got with Tony Khan to create this wrestling company as an alternative to WWE.

Now, due to the recent falling out, he and his wife, Brandi, have left the company. It is unfortunate. One has to wonder what is next for Cody and Brandi. They have been in talks with WWE. Vince reportedly wants to push him big. Given the state that WWE is in, you have to question is going back to WWE the correct move for Cody Rhodes.

American Dream or Nightmare

On one hand, this could be great. WWE is in quite the conundrum. Although they have lots of extremely talented wrestlers, they have very little star power. This is concerning when you have a guy like AJ Styles on your roster. The booking is and forever will be the most important thing to these shows. WWE’s booking is subpar at best. Their creative has been hogwash. They fail to create new stars and rely too heavily on part-time stars or nostalgia acts. This is where Cody could fit perfectly. Cody coming in white hot could give WWE another full-time big name. He freshens things up.

Once Brock leaves, WWE will have little star power. They have lots of potential transcendent stars. Again, their booking has the talent feeling nowhere near as important as they should. Cody coming in would be NEARLY impossible to mess up. Nearly.

On the other hand, you have to fear if he’ll just be booked as crappy as he once was. This would be unfortunate. As this is what led to him leaving in the first place. Would Vince book the man who tried to take him down in such a positive way. I say yes. If he is smart. Booking Cody Rhodes strong would not only be money for the company, but it could also show other potential disgruntled AEW stars that WWE isn’t as bad as their reputation suggests. If Cody were to go over to WWE, it would be huge. He’d be the first to go from AEW to WWE. He’s also the face of AEW, going to the rival. This situation is very interesting, and fans are looking forward to Cody’s next move. I wish him and Brandi nothing but the best. We all, as fans, just want good wrestling and good television. Cody embodies that, no matter where he goes.
